On Friday, the Spring Valley Vikings head to Roebuck to challenge top teams from the Southeast in the Tournament of Champions at Dorman.
The field includes three-time SCISA champion Porter-Gaud, perennial power Wando, back-to-back Class A champion St. Joseph’s, and Class 2A No. 1 Bishop England. Out-of-state competitors are Charlotte Country Day, Musselman (W.Va.), and Christian Academy, of Knoxville, Tenn.
The pool-play tournament begins on Friday at 5 p.m. Play resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m. and divisional championship matches will be played that evening.
Scores of local runners will compete Saturday in the Lake Murray Invitational at Chapin’s Crooked Creek Park.
The event, which begins at 8:30 a.m. with junior varsity races, is hosted jointly by the Chapin Eagles and Irmo Yellow Jackets.
More than a dozen Midlands teams are slated to compete, along with a handful of Upstate and Lowcountry squads.
Last year, Lexington’s girls and Mauldin’s boys were winners.
Defending Class 4A champion Lexington headlines the WSCGA Invitational, to be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Sanctuary at Cat Island in Beaufort.
The 15-team tournament tees off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and the second round begins on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
The Wildcats are coming off a strong victory at the Thoroughbred Invitational, where they defeated Bluffton by 20 shots on Monday.
