New College of Charleston baseball Chad Holbrook has landed one of the top baseball players in the Midlands for his first recruiting class.
Lexington rising senior catcher Jared Kirven committed to play for Holbrook, the former South Carolina, and the Cougars. Kirven was committed to Clemson in 2015 but decommitted a few weeks ago.
“The overall school and the brand new, top of the line coach staff were major factors for me committing there,” Kirven said. “I’m super excited about this opportunity to play for coach Holbrook, and can’t wait to see what he does with the program.”
Kirven hit .268 with 18 RBI this season for the Wildcats, who advanced to the Class 5A Lower State championship. He also is known for his strong defensive skills behind the plate.
Kirven played this summer with the Evoshield Canes National team.
