The River Bluff wrestling team’s chance to defend its state title might not be over.
The Gators lost to Fort Dorchester, 41-26, on Wednesday in the Class 5A Lower State championship. But the South Carolina High School League is looking into the possibility of the Patriots using an ineligible wrestler.
Fort Dorchester was scheduled to face Rock Hill on Saturday for the Class 5A championship but that has been postponed until further notice.
“Accusations presented to the SCHSL must provide probable cause for an investigation to occur and be found valid after a detailed inquiry. The SCHSL regrets the schedule change for all student athletes and coaches involved,” South Carolina High School League commissioner Jerome Singleton said in a statement.
Never miss a local story.
Fort Dorchester is appealing to the SCHSL executive committee and the appeal is scheduled for Monday.
River Bluff coach Evan Moxie said the team is planning to prepare that they will be wrestling at some point next week.
River Bluff is 23-5 on the season and defeated Rock Hill last year for the school’s first state wrestling title.
