Jaelynn Murray will trade her Dreher blue for Tar Heel blue next season.

The Dreher senior forward committed to play basketball at North Carolina over the weekend. UNC offered Murray back in July.

The 6-foot-2 Murray averaged 18.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game last year in helping Dreher to the Class 3A state championship. For her career, she has scored 1,118 points.

Murray also had offers from Duke and Florida International among others. She joins Janelle Bailey (Providence Day/Charlotte, N.C.) as the second Tar Heel commitment for the Class of 2017.

Murray’s mother, Michelle, played at South Carolina from 1990-93 and is No. 5 on the school’s all-time blocked shots list.

Murray is the second Dreher player to commit to UNC the past two years. Jhilieya Dunlap, The State’s Gatorade Player of the Year last season, signed with the Tar Heels in November but will play the next two years at Gulf Coast Community College before heading to UNC.
