Yakima rack makes it easy to transport any type of bicycle

Cyclists have a wide variety of options when it comes to bikes – road, mountain, cyclocross, fat-tire – with each having its own unique geometry and suspension system that can make it difficult to carry them on a traditional hitch-mounted rack. But Yakima's HoldUp EVO rack will allow you to transport basically anything on two wheels with ease. The StrongArm hook secures a bike by its wheels, rather than by the crosstube like a traditional rack. This not only allows flexibility in which bikes you can carry, but it protects the bike's frame from scratches and other damage.

How to do the plank exercise correctly

No matter where you're doing them – TRX class, yoga, Pilates, or on your own – planks are hard. They should be, considering they engage major muscle groups all over the body, including in the core, arms, shoulder and legs. Hold planks often enough and these muscles will become strengthened and toned, which makes planks (no matter how dreadful they may seem while you're doing them) an effective total-body workout move.

Instagram effect? Number of Seattle-area hikers has doubled in less than 10 years, data show

It was a sunny, warm Sunday in late summer, and my friends and I decided to hit Snow Lake, a popular spot less than an hour's drive from Seattle. We probably left a little later in the morning than we should have, and trying to find parking was not unlike Capitol Hill on a Saturday night. The trail was jampacked, a steady stream of people and dogs all the way up and all the way down – not quite the escape from crowded city life we'd hoped for.

Twin Cities skiers giddy over winter's last gasp

The blizzard that kept on giving last weekend was the largest April snowfall for the state, the 12th largest on record for any month, and likely adds one more footnote to local history: It made possible what could be the latest-ever groomed ski trails in the Twin Cities.

Wina Sturgeon: Find the right balance for your body

Those athletes fortunate enough to get video of themselves training or competing usually use the footage to check their technique. If you are one of those lucky athletes, there's something even more important than technique to examine. Use video to check how you 'hold' your body when training or competing.
