Eight golf carts were taken for 'joyrides' from The Members Club at Woodcreek and WildeWood, with four driven into neighborhood swimming pools and causing an estimated $50,000 in damages, the club president said Wednesday.

Several carts were driven across greens on four holes at the Wildewood course, and another was left in a bunker with a broken axle. Damage to the course was minimal, said Members Club president Bill McDougall.

Three carts were left in the WildeWood pool and had to be removed by crane. Another was driven into a private residence pool, damaging the pool liner, McDougall said.

McDougall said Richland County Sheriff's Department investigators and the club's private security firm, Wade Security, are involved in the investigation. Sheriff's Department spokesman Chris Cowan said the department is investigating several leads in the case.
