5:10 p.m. | Miami defeated Clemson 7-1 on Wednesday in the ACC baseball tournament behind eight strong innings from starter Chris Hernandez.
The Tigers tallied just six hits, all singles. They did not have anyone advance to second base until the eighth inning, when Stan Widmann reached on an error and stole second on a failed hit-and-run.
They dodged a shutout with two outs in the ninth when Kyle Parker avoided grounding into his third double play as Miami’s first baseman could not dig out the throw. J.D. Burgess, who walked to open the inning, scored from third.
Hernandez finished with 10 strikeouts, one shy of his career-high — set this year against Clemson.
Tigers redshirt freshman right-hander Graham Stoneburner (6-4, 4.84 ERA) is in line to start today’s 8 p.m. against North Carolina State, although junior righty Trey Delk (2-1, 3.92) might be a possibility because the Wolfpack have not seen him this season.
