CLEMSON — Clemson junior reserve safety Sadat Chambers was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with driving under suspension, a misdemeanor.

Two Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office officials had said Tuesday that Chambers was also arrested for possessing an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

But the person charged was a passenger, Jeremy K. Adams, according to the department’s supplemental incident report made available later in the afternoon.

Chambers was released from the Chesterfield County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon on a public recognizance bond.

Chambers was pulled over by a patrolman at about 2:20 a.m. when the patrolman said Chambers had failed to dim his lights, causing the officer to pull off to the side of the road because he was unable to see clearly. Chambers gave the patrolman his driver’s permit, and a DMV check revealed that Chambers’ license had been suspended indefinitely for failure to pay a traffic ticket.

After arresting Chambers, the officer returned to the car and spotted a case of beer in the back seat. The officer saw open containers and asked the four passengers whom the cans belonged to, at which time Adams said they belonged to him.

Chambers will be allowed to play in the Jan. 1 Gator Bowl against Nebraska, coach Dabo Swinney said through a school spokesman. Chambers made 21 tackles in 12 games this season.
