USC third in East Regional
At Athens, Ga., the USC women’s golf team shot a 291 (+9) Thursday to claim third place after round one of the NCAA East Regional at University of Georgia Golf Course. Benedicte Thoumpsin shot a 68 (-4) to tie for second place. The Gamecocks are six shots behind Duke, which holds the first-round lead after shooting 285 (-3). Furman stands in fourth at +10.
FOOTBALL
Defensive coordinator to meet with Bulldog Club
Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez will be the guest speaker at the Midlands Georgia Bulldog Club meeting on May 16.
The event will be held at Seawell’s, with a social hour starting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.

Simmons, Davis among Clemson hall inductees
Three-time football All-American Anthony Simmons and former women’s basketball coach Jim Davis are among eight members of the Clemson athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2008. The new inductees include Lucy Doolittle (rowing), Ruth Grodsky (swimming), Angel Fleetwood (track), Itoro Umoh (basketball), Willie Underwood (football) and multi-sport athlete Billy Wingo. The class will be inducted on Sept. 12.
