GREENVILLE — Ben Paulsen went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs to help Clemson beat Furman 11-5 on Wednesday night.
The final score, though, does not indicate the struggles the Tigers had. Clemson trailed, 3-0 and 5-3, before scoring in each of its final five at-bats to break a three-game losing streak.
Every Clemson starter had a hit as the Tigers (25-23-1) finished with 15 on the night.
Clemson took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on Kyle Parker’s two-run double. Paulsen followed with an RBI single to give the Tigers an 8-5 lead.
The Tigers scored once more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, then added two more insurance runs in the eighth on double by Jeff Schaus and a single by Paulsen.
Brian Harrison had three of the nine hits for the Paladins (29-17).
Clemson reliever Matt Zoltak (4-0) did not allow a run in the sixth inning to get the win. Zoltak was the fourth of seven Clemson pitchers, none of which threw more than two innings.
Furman reliever Spencer Hale (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits in an inning of work to pick up the loss.
The game was played at a neutral site, Fluor Field. The teams played earlier this year at Clemson.
