USC’s Toumpsin leads East Regional after two rounds
At Athens, Ga., Benedicte Toumpsin shot the day’s best round, a 2-under-par 70, to open a three-shot lead on the field after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional.
Toumpsin, who carded one of only two sub-par rounds Friday, is at 6-under 138.
Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst and Louisville’s Sara-Maude Juneau, the first-round leader, were second at 3-under 141.
Led by Toumpsin, South Carolina was third at 18-over 94. Florida leads the team competition at 9 over. Duke is second at 12 over. The top eight teams advance to the national championship.
Furman is tied for fifth at 23-over. Charleston Southern is 18th in the 21-team field.

Clemson beats Winthrop in NCAA tourney opener
At Clemson, Ina Hadziselimovic collected a win in singles and doubles to lead Clemson past Winthrop 4-0 in the first-round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
With the victory, Clemson (16-9) advances to face Michigan (19-5) at 11 am. today. The Wolverines beat Furman, 4-0 in Friday’s other first-round match.
Winthrop finishes 13-12 and Furman ends up 19-6.

Area Bulldog Club lands Georgia coordinator
Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez will be the guest speaker at the Midlands Georgia Bulldog Club meeting on May 16.
The event will be held at Seawell’s, with a social hour starting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
