Tigers will face Coastal Carolina in 2009
The Clemson football team has filled its 2009 nonconference schedule by adding Coastal Carolina, officials from both schools said Wednesday.
The two were scheduled to play for the first time in 2014, but Clemson had a hole to plug after Louisiana Tech withdrew from its contract agreement late last year.
“It’s our philosophy, and I think it’s South Carolina’s as well, is to schedule instate schools as our championship subdivision opponents,” assistant athletics director Kyle Young said. “And they were next up.”
Clemson has scheduled at least one instate FCS opponent through 2014, including an unannounced 2011 contest against Wofford.
In other scheduling news, Ball State has agreed to move its 2010 game at Death Valley to 2012. Clemson was searching for a 2012 home game against a bowl subdivision opponent to balance having a road game at Vanderbilt.
