WOMEN’S GOLF

USC, Furman advance to NCAA finals

At Athens, Ga., Benedicte Toumpsin shot a 4-over for South Carolina Saturday to remain the overall leader at the NCAA East Regional. The Gamecocks will advance to the finals after finishing tied for sixth place.

Furman also advances to the next round, finishing in eighth place.

Clemson advances to Sweet 16

Host Clemson beat Michigan, 4-1, to advance to the NCAA championship round of 16. The Tigers will play either Texas A&M or Stanford on Thursday in Tulsa, Okla.

Padgett sets school mark

Clemson’s Travis Padgett set a school and facility record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 9.96 seconds at the Orange & Purple Classic to lead the Tigers’ men’s team, while the women’s team won five events in the final home meet of the season.
