Columbia ranks high for affordable homes

Columbia was the second most affordable market in South Carolina in a new survey put out by Coldwell Banker United, Realtors.

But all four S.C. regions in the survey beat the national average of $363,401 for a 2,200-square-foot, four-bedroom home with a two-car garage in neighborhoods attractive to corporate managers.

The most expensive place in the country to pick up that home? La Jolla, Calif., at $2.13 million. Move to Grayling, Mich., though, and it can be yours for only $112,675.

Here's how South Carolina's regions stacked up:

Columbia: $191,075

Charleston: $338,726

Greenville: $214,116

Myrtle Beach: $188,123

Other places worldwide that compared to Columbia's average price for that home: Bogota, Colombia ($182,926); Monterrey, Mexico ($188,435); Gaziantep, Turkey ($173,500); and DaNang, Vietnam ($172,900).
