The Agape Senior business complex on Main Street will raise a glass in a one-year anniversary celebration Thursday.
The seven businesses included in the Agape hub – Good Life Cafe, Michael’s Cafe & Catering, Agape Pharmacy, 24/7 Health & Fitness Center, Agape Physicians Care, Agape Conference Center, and Agape Senior – are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their move to Main Street. Their celebration will coincide with the monthly First Thursday on Main event.
The group of businesses moving in last year marked the latest step in the revitalization of the downtown retail district. The businesses occupy three historic buildings that previously were a vibrant part of the downtown shopping district, but in recent years were vacant or underutilized.
The buildings’ reincarnation will be celebrated from 5-6:30 p.m. before the First Thursday on Main festivities are in full swing. The celebration will feature free hors d’oeuvres and beverages, speeches and live entertainment including the Dreher High School Blue Devil Marching Band and the Washington Street Jammers steel drum band.
The festivities will take place in and around the Agape Conference Center at 1624 Main St. in Columbia.
First Thursdays on Main is a monthly event that aims to bring people to downtown shops, galleries and restaurants after hours. Participating businesses cover Main Street from Columbia City Hall to the State House. The businesses typically offer menu specials, sales, live entertainment and other offers from 6-10 p.m. as part of the event each month.
