JAN BRETT BOOK-SIGNING PARTY: Longtime children's author Jan Brett will give a drawing presentation at 4:30 p.m. and sign copies of her books, including "The Mitten: 20th Anniversary Edition" 5-7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Barnes and Noble, 3400 Forest Drive. Numbered tickets will be given out at the store beginning at 1 p.m. the day of the event. Limited number of tickets offered. CAUGHT IN THE CREATIVE ACT: Led by Carolina distinguished professor Janette Turner Hospital, this series features readings and lectures by well-known writers. Sessions take place 5:45-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Nov. 18 at USC's Gambrell Hall. The event is free, but registration is required. CALLING ALL POETS: The South Carolina Academy of Authors is calling for submissions for the Carrie McCray Nickens Fellowship in Poetry.
