Colloquially and affectionately referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the South Carolina Met Gala is a pinnacle evening that promises glitz, glamor and grandiose style.
The Columbia event was adopted from the famous New York City Met Gala and will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the historic 701 Whaley. Organizers anticipate more than 400 guests and they say the event promises a “true red-carpet experience.”
This year’s SC Met Gala will celebrate hip-hop culture and its invasion in all areas of entertainment and art.
Miss USA 2017 Kara McCullough and fitness guru James Patrick will host the black-tie event. Hypeman Coop and Sylvia Darlene of the “Stay on Beat” podcast will be live from the red carpet with interviews and commentary. Keep an eye out for the Gala’s fashion police which will also be live on the red carpet.
Once inside, music and art will take center stage. Attendees will be treated to performances by a hip-hop violinist, hiplet ballerinas and an R&B showcase. Mix and mingle among floating bars and gourmet food stations and enjoy a three-course dinner served by an award-winning chef.
