Coach Eddie Fogler’s red-hot Gamecocks won their fourth-straight game, going on the road to Starkville and beating Mississippi St. 73-65. Carolina started 3-0 in the SEC for the first time.
The first half was a scoring blur for both teams with the Bulldogs holding a 44-41 lead, shooting 60% from the floor. The USC D tightened up in the second half, holding MSU to a paltry 21% shooting. USC pulled ahead to a ten-point lead with four minutes left, but had to survive a late Bulldog 9-2 run. Melvin Watson’s four free throws in the final minute put it away for the Gamecocks.
