From the archives | State teams land three on preseason All-America list

Presbyterian strong safety Chad Burgess and two Newberry standouts, offensive lineman Heath Benedict and wide receiver Tymere Zimmerman, were named preseason All-Americans by D2football.com on Monday.

The honor is the fourth of the preseason for Burgess, who was also named preseason All-America by Don Hansen's, Lindy's and Street & Smith's, as well as preseason All-South Atlantic Conference.

Benedict (All-SAC) and Zimmerman (All-SAC, Street & Smith's) have also received multiple preseason honors.

Sorrells secures Furman backup quarterback role

Furman coach Bobby Lamb named redshirt freshman Jordan Sorrells as the Paladins' backup quarterback heading into the Sept. 2 season opener against Jacksonville State.

A former Greenville High standout, Sorrells had been battling sophomore Arthur Williams for the No. 2 spot behind projected starter Renaldo Gray.
