Irmo pitcher Kierstyn White signed a National Letter of Intent with South Carolina on Tuesday.
White had flown under the radar during the recruiting period because of an injury to her non-pitching shoulder, but she came back in her senior year to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 17-4 finish and the program’s second district title. She notched her 1,000th strikeout early in the season on the way to cementing a spot at the next level.
“I always wanted to play Division I, and I was always going to go wherever I could play. It just worked out that I am going to get to play and be close to my family,” said White, who committed in March.
She hopes that her ultimate triumph is an example to younger players.

“You can’t ever give up. Even with my injury, I couldn’t let it stop me, I just had to work that much harder,” she said.
