While Monte Lee was officially introduced as the new baseball coach at the College of Charleston, USC coach Ray Tanner was moving quickly to find Lee’s replacement.

North Carolina assistant Chad Holbrook is a candidate to replace Lee, although he has not yet been hired, according to athletics department spokesman Steve Fink.

"I can confirm that coach Tanner is scheduled to meet with coach Holbrooke sometime this weekend," Fink said.

Tanner is sick on Thursday, and unable to speak to the media. He did release a statement praising the hiring of Lee, who was his recruiting coordinator for just one year.

“Athletics director Joe Hull and the College of Charleston have hired a terrific young baseball coach and one of their own," Tanner said. "Six years ago when Coach Lee started working with me, I soon recognized that he possessed the char-acteristics to become a successful head coach. I am ecstatic that he was able to realize his dream of becoming a head coach at his alma mater. He and his family will be embraced by the Cougar Nation and the city of Charleston."
