Columbia High defensive back Demario Jeffery (6-3, 213) announced a commitment to USC Friday afternoon during a news conference at his school.
Jeffery narrowed his decision to the Gamecocks and Alabama.
"Now I can get on with my high school life," Jeffery said.
He actually made his decision about a month ago and says USC's lack of success actually worked in their favor.

"It was more of, 'Do I want to be on a team that's going to win it's first SEC championship? Or do I want to be on a team that has won many?" Jeffery said. "I can make history with the team. And I get to play Georgia in like the third game of the year. I want to make them pay for not offering me."
Jeffery had 109 tackles and four sacks last season. He's big enough to play linebacker, but fast enough to play safety.
"I bring a lot of versatility," he said. "I'm around 215 pounds and yesterday I ran a 4.3 with the wind. I'm pretty fast. I'm pretty versatile. I can play linebacker, safety. I'm going to try to bring what I do best to the game."
Jeffery joins his teammate and defensive back Chris Payne as a Gamecock commitment, and becomes the 11th commitment for USC's 2009 class.
