2010 PG Eric Smith (6-0 185) of Mullins entered the July portion of the summer recruiting scene as a strong lean to Clemson. A strong enough lean that he was giving serious consideration to commiting to the Tigers. But here in early August, Smith has seen Clemson's interest in him drop, while USC's has remained strong. As a result, he's now strongly favoring the Gamecocks.
"USC is showing me a lot of love," Smith said Sunday night. "They still want me. They like me a lot. Clemson has cooled a little bit. They said they really want a bigger guard out of my class. That kind of shocked me. I'm not going to say I've dropped them, but they are not where they were. USC is out front now. I just feel like I have a better opportunity at South Carolina."
Smith said the Gamecocks would like an early commitment from him but he's not quite ready to make one. Smith attended a camp at USC Saturday and was at Wake Forest Sunday for a camp.
