2010 PG Eric Smith 6-0 185) of Mullins, and his father and coach Steve, are planning to visit USC Thursday morning with the intent to commit to the Gamecocks if all parties agree. Steve Smith said Monday afternoon he's working out the final details of the schedule with his school and USC coach Darrin Horn, but he's expecting the visit to be Thursday.
And he's expecting his son to make his pledge while on the campus. "Eric wanted them to show us everything they have to offer, and coach Horn and his staff are willing to do that," Coach Smith said. "It's a good possibility a commitment could be imminent. He told me he likes them. He had a good camp there August first. Things went well there. Just based on what I see, they are really enthusiastic about him, and he's really enthusiastic about them. He just likes South Carolina. It's the flag ship school in the state right there in Columbia. It's in the SEC. And he thinks coach Horn and his staff can get the program on the right track. They have everything they need to be a major, major program."
Smith would be the first in-state prospect to commit to Horn since he replaced Dave Odom as head coach.
