WR Lamar Scruggs (6-4 212) of Jacksonville, FL made his first trip to Columbia to watch the USC/Arkansas game this past Saturday. He was impressed with the gameday atmosphere and enjoyed meeting some of the Gamecock commitments. "It was really nice," he said. "I met with some players who have committed and they were cool. (Steve) Spurrier Jr is a real cool guy too."
He said we has a little concerned with the play of the quarterbacks. "As a wide receiver, I've got to be a little concerned about it but hopefully they can straighten is out. He's a freshman, so that's a good thing," said Scruggs speaking of Stephen Garcia.
Scruggs says he was told he would have an opportunity to start as a freshman. His top five are USC, Florida, South Florida, Illinois, and LSU. Tennessee was a part of his top five until Phil Pulmer resigned letting LSU "slip back in there." Scruggs did say USC was in his top three but did not name the other two. He plans to take an official to USC but has not scheduled the visit as of yet.
