Two prospects from Greenwood High committed to USC Sunday, one for 2009 and one for 2010. Shrine Bowl DB DJ Swearinger (6-0 200) is the 2009 pledge.
Swearinger had been favoring the Gamecocks since de-committing from Tennessee following Phillip Fulmer's resignation.
"I was ready to get this out of the way," Swearinger said Sunday night. "There was no need holding it back. It was time to get this thing done. I talked to coach (Brad) Lawing. He said he felt like doing cartwheels.
"Before all of this started, I wanted to look for a team with good fans and good academics, and an SEC school. The fans are fantastic at Carolina. They know their football and they know their players. It's my home-state school, and the coaches make you feel at home. I just felt more at home."

Swearinger said he will play strong or free safety with the Gamecocks. This season he totaled 77 tackles with 4 for losses, 2 forced fumbles and 8 passes broken up. On offense, playing quarterback and receiver, he rushed for 904 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 210 yards.
Swearinger also confirmed that his junior teammate, DL Kelcy Quarles (6-4 260), committed to the Gamecocks on Sunday for the 2010 class. Quarles is the son of former USC offensive tackle Buddy Quarles.
