Greenwood DL Kelcy Quarles (6-5 270) is expected to be one of the state's top prospects in 2010. In 2011, he plans to follow his father's footsteps and don a USC jersey. Quarles committed to his Gamecock recruiter Brad Lawing Sunday following through on what he knew he and his family wanted all along. "There wasn't any doubt," Quarles said. "I knew where my heart was and where my dad's heart was. I knew for sure in my home it was South Carolina."
Quarles father Buddy played offensive tackle for the Gamecocks in the mid 80s. So, he's known all about the Gamecocks, their history and their fans for years. "I like the atmosphere and the fans," he said. "I like how they are dedicated. I like the recruiting class coming in this year. Coach Lawing is always rotating defensive linemen in and out. I like their pass rushing and how they come off the ball and play fast."
Quarles considers himself to be a good pass rusher. His 15 sacks and 60 total tackles this season would support that. "I run to the ball well," he said. "I'm very strong and I'm getting stronger in my legs. I'm a physical tackle. I don't like beating around the bush. I like running you over and making you feel bad." Quarles is the Gamecocks' second commitment for the 2010 class.
