After a few days of public uncertainty, defensive back Jonathan Davis (5-9 205) of Tucker, Ga., is now publicly a USC commitment.
His father, Ty Davis, said Wednesday they firmed up a commitment with the Gamecocks earlier in the day.
"We wanted to talk to some people and firm some things up," Ty Davis said. "He's too excited about this. Everything is finalized. The options are closed and we are happy."
It was reported by USC Web sites over the weekend that Davis had committed, but Davis and his father would not publicly confirm the commitment until Wednesday.

"I feel great," said Davis who could get a look at running back. "I'm glad the process is over. I can focus on the rest of my senior year and move on to track. I'm not visiting any other schools. I made up my mind. South Carolina is my No. 1, and I committed to those guys."
This season Davis totaled 128 tackles with 8 sacks and 1 interception. He also rushed for 1,236 yards. He's the 27th commitment for the Gamecocks.
