Gamecocks Make Run At Committed Corner

With USC losing Captain Munnerlyn early to the draft, the Gamecocks are in need of at least one more corner in this class, and defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson has set his sights on Darrell Givens (6-1 172) of Indian Head, MD.

"I talked to coach Johnson tonight," Givens said Sunday night. "He was telling me it's a good chance for corners to come in and play early. He really wants to get me on campus for a visit."

Givens said he will make that visit either this coming weekend or the next weekend. "I'm committed to Penn State right now but I'm giving South Carolina a fair shot," he said. "I want to visit them and see what they have to offer." Givens said his father will join him on the visit.

Givens originally committed to Ohio State last April but backed off that and committed to Penn State a month later. This season he totaled 63 tackles with 4 interceptions, 7 passes broken up, 2 forced fumbles and 1 sack.
