The USC baseball team had its highest grade point average (3.114) on record and the men's basketball team had its second highest (2.749), but the Gamecocks football team had the lowest GPA (2.374) for the Fall 2008 semester among the school’s 17 athletics programs.
It was also a drop from fall 2007, when the football team had a cumulative 2.540, which was the team's best in-season performance on record.
In 2006, the football team had a GPA of 2.305.
For the fourth consecutive semester, USC's mean grade point average (GPA) of its 500 student-athletes eclipsed the 3.0 mark, posting a combined 3.006.

Thirteen of USC's 17 athletics programs posted a 3.0 GPA or better. Men's golf led the way with a 3.506 GPA.
Forty-nine student-athletes were named to the President's List, which honors students with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 124 were named to the Dean's List.
“We are pleased with these accomplishments and we will continue to challenge them to improve because we know their capabilities,” said Raymond Harrison, director of Academic and Life Skills.
