Dog days at the dog show

Uno the beagle — last year’s Best in Show at the Westminister Dog Show — was the guest of honor Monday at Madison Square Garden.

Uno, who was handled by Aaron Wilkerson of Lugoff last year, is retired, but still brings excitement to the annual competition.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes were readying for judging tonight and Monday.

Today’s schedule includes judging in the Hounds, Terrier, Nonsporting and Herding groups are today. Judging in the Sporting, Working and Toy groups are Tuesday.

S.C. at the dog show

At least a dozen owners and handlers from South Carolina entered the competition.

Invitees — dogs asked to this year’s show — include several with South Carolina connections:

-A pointer, CH BiBa’s Encore and nicknamed P’Nut, owned by Barbara Shives of Blythewood (judging in the sporting group is Tuesday)

-A keeshonden, Ch. Shakota’s Shot in the Dark, nicknamed Hot Shot, owned by Beth Blankenship of Lake City (judging in the nonsporting group is today)

-A smooth coat chihuahua, Ch. Belle Shoals Louisville Slugger, nicknamed Louie, owned by Jan and Buddy Dulin of Pickens. (judging in the toy group is Tuesday).

-A smooth collie, Ch. Deep River Bow and Arrow, nicknamed Scout, co-owned by N.J. Parker of Travelers Rest. (judging of the herding group is today)
