Quarterback Connor Shaw (6-2 198) of Flowery Branch, Ga., attended USC's junior day Saturday and left Columbia with the Gamecocks firmly No. 1 on his list.
"It went great," Shaw said. "It was my first trip to Columbia. I pretty much fell in love with it. I loved the coaches. The facilities are unreal."
Shaw said what he learned about the offense also caught his attention.
"Coach Mangus is bringing in more stuff out of the gun," he said. "He said I'm pretty much a perfect fit for the offense they are putting in. I think Carolina is on top right now. Georgia Tech is a close second. I'm still open right now, but South Carolina is on top of the list right now."

Shaw said he will return to Columbia for the spring game April 11. He's never been to a game at Williams-Brice Stadiuim.
"I want to get a little bit more of a feel for what they do football wise," he said.
Shaw will visit West Virginia in April and he plans to make a decision before his senior season.
Shaw couldn't say if he's USC's top quarterback target, but he thinks the list is a short one.
"I think it's me and Nick Montana," he said.
Last season Shaw passed for 2,200 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 946 yards and 10 scores.
