Hopkins Will Stay Close To Home

DB DeAndre Hopkins (6-3 185) of Daniel committed to Clemson while attending the Tigers' junior day activities his mother confirmed Saturday afternoon. Hopkins had indicated earlier in the week a commitment to the Tigers was possible.

Hopkins also is a basketball prospect but is expected to concentrate on football. Last season he had 37 tackles, 10 passes broken up and 9 interceptions. He also plays receiver and caught 29 passes for 539 yards and 8 touchdowns. This basketball season he averaged 22 points per game.

Hopkins also had football offers from USC, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. For basketball, he had offers from USC and Florida.

Hopkins is the fourth commitment for 2010 for Clemson. All four are from South Carolina.
