USC softball player Ashton Payne and track athlete Jason Richardson are the Gamecocks' nominees for the SEC's McWhorter post-graduate scholarship, the conference announced Tuesday.
Payne, a senior from Richmond, Va., is a biology sciences major with a 3.95 GPA. A member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Golden Key honor societies, Payne led the Gamecocks in six statistical categories last season.
Richardson, a senior from Cedar Hill, Texas, has a 3.69 GPA and is a sport and entertainment management major. A McKissick scholar at USC, Richardson was the NCAA and SEC champion last spring in the 110-meter hurdles.
The SEC will announce the scholarship recipient April 6. The other nominees include:

The SEC will announce the nominees from Tennessee and Vanderbilt this week.
