Inspire me: Spring into action for charities

Got a spring cleaning project on the horizon? Why not get a jump-start on your plans and feel good at the same time?

The West Metro Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center is holding a supply drive Friday at the Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th Street in Cayce.

Gregg Pinner, executive director of the chamber, said the idea for “Good Deed Friday” as it’s being called, came out of a series of monthly luncheons with chamber members.

“We knew that Christmas or the month of December was always heavy with volunteerism or donations, so we wanted to do something that would help those organizations after donations dropped off,” Pinner said.

Event organizers are looking for specific supplies local charities need. For example, several organizations need copy paper and paper towels, while others are looking for canned and non-perishable food items.

For a list of participating charities and their specific needs, visit,gooddeedfriday/ or call the West Metro Chamber at (803) 794-6504. Donations will be accepted in the church’s fellowship hall from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
