Irmo police seek ID of charity thief

Irmo police are looking for a man who stole a Muscular Dystrophy Association donation box from a convenience store last month.

The unidentified man came into the Circle K at 7435 St. Andrews Road around 1:15 a.m. April 18 and purchased a case of beer, police said.

He then hid the donation box on the counter behind the case of beer and took both out the door. A store worker told investigators the donation container held about $30, mostly as dollar bills and change.

Investigators are now releasing surveillance images of the suspect in the hope someone can identify him.

He is described as a white man with brown hair between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall, in his late 20s or early 30s with a medium build. He was wearing a red baseball cap, a black zipper pullover and dark pants.

Information about the suspect can be left with Crime Stoppers at (888) CRIME-SC.
