A court ruling. The five members of the S.C. Supreme Court must decide whether to intervene as Gov. Mark Sanford has asked and shield the Ethics Commission investigative report from lawmakers - or to stay out of the process and allow the Ethics Commission to share the report with lawmakers. There is no timetable for a decision.
An investigative report. The Ethics Commission expects to be done with its initial report by early November. The Supreme Court, aware of this timetable, is likely to rule before then.
A fall legislative session. The General Assembly will reconvene next week to fix a law that is depriving 7,000 jobless South Carolinians of jobless benefits. At least one member of the General Assembly said he would try to push an impeachment case against Sanford during this session.
