Lake City vs. Airport
WHERE: Eagles Stadium at Mooneyhan Athletic Complex, West Columbia
WHEN: 7:30 tonight
RECORDS: Lake City (10-1), Airport(11-0)
THE SKINNY: Airport, ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, survived a tough first-round game to beat Darlington 37-31 in overtime. Lake City, which missed last year's playoffs because of SCHSL probation, is ranked No. 6 and pounded Battery Creek 46-12 on Friday.
Players to watch
(AIRPORT) RYAN SMITH - A senior running back, Smith leads the Eagles in rushing with 1,239 yards and has scored 15 touchdowns. He also has caught three touchdown passes.
(LAKE CITY) SHON CARSON - A junior running back, Carson is among the state's most explosive players. He rushed 20 times for 181 yards and four touchdowns in the Panthers' victory against Battery Creek.
AIRPORT WILL WIN IF ... It's defense is up to the Panthers' challenge. As great as Airport's offense is, it can't be expected to score 35 points a game in the playoffs.
LAKE CITY WILL WIN IF ... The Panthers have another night like Friday against Battery Creek, when Lake City ran up 395 yards rushing. That kind of performance will put Airport in a tough position.
PREDICTION: Lake City 34, Airport 28
