Airport expensesLexington County got into the airport business in 2004 when it bought the Pelion facility for $225,500. Since then, the county has made improvements costing $1.2 million, mostly by using federal grants. Here is an overview of the upgrades:

2005: $58,400 to repair runway lights and control grass and weeds

2006: $249,000 to build a fueling facility, build an access road and expand an apron at the edge of the taxiway

2007: $428,000 to install a new runway lighting system

2008: $79,000 to upgrade the south apron

2009: $439,000 to improve the runway, taxiway and apron, then construct a new south apron
