Holmes stays home; Bunton stays busy

Mike Holmes has been at two recent USC women's basketball home games. But the USC forward was kept home for the fourth straight men's game since his eye injury.

"Right now as he recovers, it's a sensitive area, we don't want anything else freakish to happen," coach Darrin Horn said. "He missed some academics when he was out, finishing up for finals. He has to make up some of that. So that's all that is."

Dominique Archie has been at every Gamecock game since he hurt his knee. ...

Darrin Horn is 0-3 as South Carolina's coach in road games at in-state schools: The Gamecocks lost at Clemson two weeks ago, and at College of Charleston last year. ...

It was a mini-homecoming for USC assistant Mike Boynton, who was an assistant at Wofford for one season before joining Horn's staff.

Boynton visited with several fans during warm-ups, and exchanged pleasantries with Wofford athletics director Richard Johnson and coach Mike Young. ...

Another USC assistant, Cypheus Bunton, had a busy day. During the afternoon he was at Richland Northeast High School, attending a Chik-fil-A Classic game featuring two USC recruits playing against each other. (Damontre Harris of Trinity Christian and Anthony Gill of Charlotte Christian.)

Bunton then drove to Spartanburg, arriving in time to lead the Gamecocks' big men in warm-ups.
