South Carolina bounced back after its demoralizing loss at Wofford. But it took a full half to do it on Monday against Furman.

The Gamecocks (8-3) went on a 28-5 run early in the second half, running away from a game that was close for the first 25 minutes. Furman (5-5) had several small leads.

Devan Downey led the way with 16 points, eight assists and seven steals.

"I don't think there was any question that was Devan's best game of the year," coach Darrin Horn said. ...

The Gamecocks have 89 blocked shots this season. That's on track to break the program record of 203, set during the 1972-73 season.

Monday was the seventh time this season the Gamecocks have had at least nine blocks. The season-high was 12, against Georgia Southern.
