Defensive back Jared Henry (6-0 184) of Jacksonville, Fla., committed to USC Thursday, becoming the fifth commitment for the Gamecocks' 2011 class.
Henry and several of his teammates visited USC Wednesday after earlier camping at Clemson.
For Henry, it was his first visit to USC.
"I loved it," he said. "The players' lounge and the weight room...the weight room was awesome. And I was impressed with the strength and conditioning coaches. I was amazed by it."
Henry said he met with his recruiter, Steve Spurrier Jr. He credits Spurrier Jr. for putting the Gamecocks out front early with him.
"He made a good first impression," said Henry who chose USC over South Florida and Central Florida. He also had offers from Maryland, Purdue, Rutgers, Missouri, Marshall, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State.
Henry plays safety and had around 100 tackles last season with 2 interceptions. He feels USC's secondary package will be a good fit for him.
"They run five (DBs) so that gives me a chance for early playing time," he said. "I like their aggressive style."
Henry's coach at First Coast, Marty Lee, said earlier in the spring that Henry "loves to come down hill and hit. He's getting better on man coverage. He just makes plays."
Henry said his commitment is firm and he is finished with recruiting.
