The S.C. House approved today a bill capping damages that can be paid in lawsuits.
The tort reform bill, H. 3374, is a high priority for House Republicans and nearly identical to a bill the House passed last year but failed to pass the state Senate.
The bill would limit punitive damages that juries can award to three times the amount of a plaintiff's costs or $350,000, whichever is greater.
The bill also would limit the fees that could be paid to outside attorneys hired by the Attorney General or solicitors.
The bill passed 100-7 with no debate.
