Sources close to U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint say there is practically no chance the Greenville Republican will run for president next year.
DeMint has repeatedly said he would not consider a run but, this week, speculation has began anew after DeMint said in a media interview with The Hill that he had discussed a possible White House run with his wife and was praying on the issue out of respect for his supporters.
Many Republicans have expressed frustration with the Republican field, saying none are capable of galvanizing voters. Sources close to DeMint say he remains focused on his work in the Senate and is unlikely to run. "He was being respectful to everyone who has urged him to run," said Matt Hoskins, spokesman for DeMint's Senate Conservatives Fund.
