U.S. Rep. and former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will be in Columbia on Monday to help raise money for S.C. Sen. Tom Davis.
Davis, a Beaufort Republican, endorsed Paul during the South Carolina Republican presidential primary. Paul finished fourth, with just under 13 percent of the vote.
A state Senator since 2008, Davis is running unopposed for reelection to the state Senate. A fiscal conservative, Davis is widely rumored to have aspirations for higher office -- rumors that will only grow louder with the presence of Paul at a high-profile fundraiser.
However, a spokeswoman for Davis said the fundraiser is to pay for Davis’ campaign debt and is not connected with a bid for another office.

“I am honored to have Ron Paul as a special guest at my event in Columbia next Monday,” Davis said in a news release. “People from every corner of South Carolina who champion liberty and are passionate about limiting government will be in attendance, and it is my hope the event kick-starts momentum for true free-market, individual-liberty reforms in our state government.”
The fundraiser will be at 701 Whaley.
