Coach Rex Enright and the Gamecocks battled to a 0-0 tie with the Tennessee Volunteers in Columbia.
Even though the game ended scoreless, it turned out to be a pretty big surprise. Carolina would finish with a 1-7-1 record, while Tennessee would go 9-1-1, including a Sugar Bowl victory over Tulsa.
Coach Enright would leave after the 1942 season, only to return as coach in 1946. His 15 year tenure at USC is the longest of any coach. He still has the most wins in Gamecock history with 64.
