Carolina scored what might have been its greatest football victory ever.
The Gamecocks went into “The Bighouse” and beat a very strong Michigan team by a score of 17-14. Michigan was dominant in the first half, leading 14-3 at halftime, powered by two Anthony Carter TD catches.
However, a two-yard TD run by George Rogers, and a go-ahead one-yarder by FB Johnnie Wright in third quarter put the Gamecocks ahead 17-14.
The Carolina defense stopped the Wolverines deep in USC territory as the clock expired. Michigan went on to win the Rose Bowl over Washington, finished 10-2, and #4 in the final AP poll.
