Carolina moves to 5-0 in the 2001 season, winning what many say is the most exciting game ever at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Alabama QB Tyler Watts runs the Alabama offense to near perfection as the Crimson Tide build what appears to be an insurmountable 36-24 lead with nine minutes left to play. But the Gamecock are not done, as Derek Watson races in from two-yards out with 6:30 left.
An unlikely target, TE Rod Trafford, catches the go-ahead TD pass from Phil Petty from seven yards out with only 2:18 remaining. Ironically, it was Trafford’s only catch of the season.
The Carolina D held Alabama on four downs in their next possession to seal the win. The 15th ranked Gamecocks win 37-36, despite giving up 516 yards to the Crimson Tide.
