Led by first-year coach Jim Carlin, the Gamecocks surprised the visiting 18th ranked Baylor Bears by a score of 24-13.
Carolina rolled up 302 yards on the ground, mostly by the RB duo of Kevin Long and Clarence Williams. Each went over 100 yards rushing, which was not an unusual occurrence. Long totaled 1,133 yards rushing, and Williams added 1,073 during the ‘75 season.
These dual 1,000 yard rushers carried the Gamecocks to a 7-4 record and the Tangerine Bowl in 1975.
