Fans in Athens, Ga., on this date would witness one of the most memorable games in USC or Georgia history.
The 62,200 in attendance saw two of the greatest players in college football history square off as Herschel Walker led unbeaten and No. 4 Georgia against George Rogers and No. 14 Carolina. The two future Heisman winners did not disappoint.
Walker scored the Bulldogs' only TD on an electrifying 76 yard gallop. Rogers would go for 168 yards himself for the Gamecocks.
The MVP, however, would have to be Georgia kicker Rex Robinson. Robinson booted FGs of 57 and 51 yards leading Georgia to a narrow 13-10 victory over USC.
